Kapiolani Order

Kapiʻolani Order

The Kapiolani Order was founded in 1874 by the Hawaiian King Kalākaua in honor of his wife, Queen Kapiʻolani (1834–1899) and in honor of women as an order of women for excellent service.

Order classes

The Order of Merit had seven classes:

Order decoration

The decoration consists of a four-armed, eight-pointed, red enamelled gold cross. In the corner of the cross arm there is a golden royal crown. The red center shield shows the letter K in gold, entwined twice. Everything is enclosed by a white enamelled ring with KULIA I. KANUO written on it in gold . The inscription KULIA is engraved in the circlet on the reverse . Below are two golden laurel branches , equal to the front. A medallion with the image of the queen is attached to the cross arm pointing upwards .

A silver eight-pointed star carried the order decoration cross. Two short gold ribbons attached to the upper cross arm ended in the large gold royal crown of Hawaii, where the suspension ring for the ribbon was also located.

Ribbon

The ribbon is yellow and has three narrow red stripes.
