The Kappenliest ( Halcyon pileata ) is an Asian kingfisher.
features
The 28 cm long bird has a purple-blue back, a black head and black shoulder, a white neck and throat, and a reddish underside. The large beak and legs are colored bright red. In flight, the white spots on the blue-black wings are visible. The sexes look similar, the young birds are less colorful. The short, rounded wings whir in fast, direct flight. The call is a cackling ki-ki-ki-ki-ki .
Occurrence
The distribution area extends from India to China , Korea and Southeast Asia. The black-capped kingfisher is a partial migrant , the northern populations wintering in Thailand and Sri Lanka , Borneo and Java .

Wooded rivers and streams, palm trees, bamboo, rice fields, wooded coasts
behavior
The bird lives in forests near the water. From a clearly visible vantage point, he looks for large insects , fish , frogs and mice .
Reproduction
Four to five white eggs are incubated in an earth tunnel.
