The Kappler Tunnel is a road tunnel in the city of Freiburg im Breisgau . The 1230 meter long tunnel is part of the B 31 on the way to Donaueschingen and was built between 1994 and 2002. In the Littenweiler district it runs along the Höllentalbahn. The Kappler Tunnel was tested by the ADAC as the safest tunnel in Germany. In 2005 around 33,600 vehicles used the city tunnel every day. The tunnel is named after the next district Kappel . Shortly after or before the tunnel follows the Schützenalleetunnel , which was built at about the same time .

In contrast to most of the other double-tube road tunnels in Baden-Württemberg, where there is a speed limit of 100 km / h, the Schützenalle tunnel and Kappler tunnel each have a speed limit of 80 km / h.
