The Schützenalleetunnel is a road tunnel in the city of Freiburg im Breisgau . The 932 meter long tunnel is part of the B 31 on the way to Donaueschingen and was built between 1997 and 1999, but only opened in October 2002 together with the Kappl tunnel , which is directly connected to the route. The tunnel consists of a tube with two by two lanes and emergency bays on both sides. The tunnel cross-section is 170 to 190 square meters, in the area of the lane changes and the operations building it is 270 square meters. Since the tunnel structure runs very close to historically significant building fabric, special underpinnings and so-called injection columns support the structure. The tunnel passes under the Schützenallee, after which it is named , in the Wiehre district of Freiburg .

The Schützenalleetunnel is the starting point for all proposed alternatives to the Freiburg city tunnel , which is currently under discussion . After a possible completion of the city tunnel, the Kappler tunnel and the Schützenalleetunnel are to become part of an urban motorway through Freiburg. The city administration of Freiburg announced this on May 23, 2012.

In contrast to most of the other double-tube road tunnels in Baden-Württemberg (which have a speed limit of 100 km / h), the Schützenalle tunnel and Kappler tunnel each have a speed limit of 50 km / h.
