The Karıca weir is located in the northern Turkish province of Ordu in the Pontic Mountains on the river Melet Çayı .
The Karıca weir was completed in 2009. The barrier structure is 35 m above the foundation level and 28 m above the valley floor. The Topçam Dam is about 10 km upstream .
The Darıca 1 hydropower plant ( ⊙ ) is located at about 340 m above sea level on the left bank of the Melet Çayı. The river water flows from the weir to the power plant via an 8.5 km long tunnel with a diameter of 5.5 m. The facility has a 70 m high water tower . The hydraulic potential is 315 m. The power plant has two vertical-axis Francis turbines of 56.2 megawatts each from Voith-Siemens. The standard energy capacity is around 282 GWh per year.
