The Melet Çayı (also Melet Irmağı ) is a river in northern Turkey .
The Melet Çayı was called Melanthios (Latinized Melanthius ) in ancient times . The river rises on the southern flank of the Giresun Mountains , a mountain range of the Eastern Pontic Mountains . Initially it flows in a westerly direction. It passes the district town of Mesudiye , located in the southeast of Ordu Province . Then he turns north and breaks through the mountain range of the Pontic Mountains . At a weir below Mesudiye, part of the river water is directed to a hydroelectric power station via an approximately 8 km long canal. The Melet Çayı is then dammed by the Topçam dam . The Karıca Weir is located a few kilometers downstream . The water flows through an 8.5 km long tunnel to the downstream Darıca 1 hydropower plant . The Melet Çayı continues its course in a northerly direction and forms the western border of the Eastern Pontic Mountains. In the lower reaches it passes the place Kayabaşı before it flows into the Black Sea on the eastern outskirts of the provincial capital Ordu . The Melet Çayı has a length of approx. 170 km.
