Karar ( Decision ) is a Turkish daily newspaper with editorial offices in Istanbul . It has been published since April 2015. It is regarded as the organ of dissidents in the environment of the Justice and Recovery Party (AKP).
overview
In both the AKP-affiliated and opposition media, Karar is often associated with the former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu . Karar author Mehmet Ocakatan (2007 to 2011 MP of the AKP and editor-in-chief of Akşam from 2013 to 2015 ) rejects designations such as “Davutoğlu newspaper” and emphasizes his ongoing ties to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan . However, the newspaper also formulates criticism of things that it thinks are wrong.
Many Karar authors, including Mehmet Ocakatan, had previously been dismissed from AKP-affiliated newspapers such as Akşam , Star or Yeni Şafak ; Karar editor-in-chief İbrahim Kiras had resigned as editor-in-chief of Star in protest against the dismissals . Other well-known Karar authors are the Turkish-Armenian publicist Etyen Mahçupyan , the security expert Mete Yarar, the poet and journalist Yağmur Atsız , the writer Beşir Ayvazoğlu and the journalists Mustafa Karaalioğlu, Hakan Albayrak and Vahdettin İnce.
Trivia
At the beginning of May 2016, those around President Erdoğan publicly criticized the work of the then Prime Minister and AKP head Davutoğlu. In the paper called "Pelican Dossier", the unknown authors listed Davutoğlu's "betrayal" in 27 points. This also included the recently established founding of Karar . Founding your own newspaper is tantamount to founding your own party. Shortly afterwards, Karar exclusively announced Davutoğlu's impending resignation from all offices.
