Karel Milota

Karel Milota (real name Karel Hroch ; born September 16, 1937 in Prague ; † April 30, 2002 ibid) was a Czech poet, writer and translator.

Life

Milota passed his Abitur examination in 1957, but was not allowed to study for political reasons and worked as a consultant in the scientific and technical department of the road administration, in which he worked as a department head and translator. In 1964 he was given permission to study English and Bohemian Studies at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University , which he finished in 1969. In 1970 he received his doctorate in philosophy (DrPh.). He was married to the novelist, literary theorist and translator Daniela Hodrová.

Works

After 1960 he wrote articles for the magazines Tvář , Sešity , Plamen . During this time his literary activity began. In addition, he mainly translated works by Russian authors. From 1990 to 1991 he was editor of the literary newspaper ( Literární noviny ).
