Karel Pelant

Karel Pelant (born October 28, 1874 in Prague , †  January 24, 1925 in Prague) was a Czech journalist and a pioneer of the Esperanto movement .

Life

After studying sculpture at the Prague Art Academy , Pelant became a journalist. Initially active in the Czech provinces, he later worked in Prague. After the end of the First World War he became editor of the Večera newspaper .

In 1901 he was a co-founder of the First Austrian Esperantist Society. Furthermore, the atheist Pelant, who was known as an eloquent debate speaker and polemicist, was a feared anti-church pamphletist .

Pelant, who had stayed in America for a long time and had published a book about it, also worked as a literary translator from English and French .
