Karen Jensen (singer)

Karen Jensen is a Canadian singer (soprano) and vocal teacher.

Jensen studied at the University of London , the University of Saskatchewan and the Royal Academy of Music . Her teachers included Cathy Berberian , Robert Spencer , Marjorie Thomas , Jessica Cash and Dorothy Howard . She has performed as a vocal soloist in concert halls in London, Rome, Turin, Amsterdam and Brussels, Finland, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic and was a founding member of the avant-garde group Electric Phoenix , for musicians like Henri Pousseur , Peter Maxwell Davies and Roger Marsh composed.

She was also a soloist in the Red Byrd group under the direction of John Potter and the Lontano group under Odaline Martinez, and soloist in the performances of Luciano Berio's Laborintus II with the Rome Philharmonic Orchestra in Turin and Rome and with the London Symphony Orchestra in the Royal Albert Hall . She has performed under conductors such as Berio, Henri Pousseur , Clive Waring , John Gardener and John Alldis and with partners such as Linda Hirst , Catherine Bott and Andrew Parrott .

Jensen is Professor of Singing and Vocal Education in the University of Manitoba School of Music . She received the International Award for Innovation in Teaching and Technology for her multimedia CD-ROM A Singer's Guide to the IPA .
