resume

Kari Guddal has lived in Denmark since she was seven. From 1979 to 1982 she completed an apprenticeship as a master craftsman in the studios of Margrethe Agger , Trine Ellitsgaard and Torill Ruud Galsøe. From 1982 to 1984 she took part in an artisan project in Peru . She was married to the translator Herbert Drawer and makes her tapestries in her studio in Copenhagen . In 2009 she was recorded in Kraks Blå Bog .

Style and technology

In its early days of Victor Vasarely influenced Kari Guddal returned to figurative tapestries in the style of Margrethe Agger in the abstraction back. Her tapestries can now be associated with the abstract expressionism of Mark Rothko and the earthy structures in Per Kirkeby's painting . Characteristic for her pictorial work in this phase are opalescent surfaces in closely spaced shades (e.g. two shades , light stone , white cuboid ). With the soccer player Guddal created her first figurative work.

Kari Guddal works from his own boxes on an old large high loom (Hautelisse), a loan from a private collection. She dyes her yarns from the wool of the Norwegian Spælsau sheep herself in more than 300 shades.
