Kari Laukkanen (born December 14, 1963 in Pielavesi ) is a former Finnish football goalkeeper who switched to coaching after the end of his active career.

Athletic career

Kari Laukkanen began his playing career in 1982 with the Finnish first division club Kuopion PS , where he was able to earn a regular place straight away. In 1986 Laukkanen, who had already become the goalkeeper of the Finnish national football team , moved to Cercle Bruges . After only one season Laukkanen left Cercle Bruges again for Kuopio, but shortly afterwards switched to the Stuttgarter Kickers .

In 1988 he was promoted to the Bundesliga with the Stuttgarter Kickers . Laukkanen was able to assert himself as a regular goalkeeper in Stuttgart. Laukkanen then moved to SV Waldhof Mannheim for five seasons . After eight years of professional football in Germany, Laukkanen returned to the Finnish league, where he found his last major station at FinnPa . This was only followed by guest appearances such as Hangö IK or Riihimypen Ilves , both in 1999, before Laukkanen also ended his career as an active player.

After his active career, Laukkanen worked as an assistant coach at FC Honka Espoo and the Finnish U-18 national team. He then took over the position of head coach at Nurmijärven JS and was the goalkeeping coach of the Finnish U-21 national team. At Nurmijärven JS, he also played an official league game in 2005 as a 41-year-old.
