Finnairin Palloilijat Helsinki (FinnPa) was a Finnish football club that existed from 1965 to 1998. The first team played for six seasons, from 1993 to 1998, in the top Finnish league . The club's floorball department also exists .

history

The association was founded by employees of the Finnish airline Aero O / Y as Aeron Palloilijat . When the airline was renamed Finnair in 1969, the club name changed accordingly.

1992 succeeded the club under coach Reima Kokko promotion to the Veikkausliiga . FinnPa stayed in the House of Lords of Finnish Football for six years and achieved the top ranking in 1997 with third place. As a result, FinnPa also qualified for the 1998/99 UEFA Cup . In the Suomen Cup in 1998, FinnPa made it to the semi-finals. Otherwise, the 1998 season was anything but good for FinnPa. In the league, the club finished penultimate and rose after two draws due to the away goals rule in the relegation against TPV Tampere . Finnair took the descent as an opportunity to withdraw financial support from the club. The association was dissolved in 1998.

This had an impact on Finnish football history at the turn of the millennium: The Finnair Stadium , which was commissioned by businessman Hjallis Harkimo for FinnPa and which was supposed to be built in 1999, was nearing its end. Since it was not possible for the “first” club in the city, HJK Helsinki , to even partially cover the costs, Hjallis Harkimo bought the PK-35 Helsinki club (since 1997 in the Veikkausliiga) to add another strong club Helsinki to establish and changed the name to FC Jokerit , based on the ice hockey club Jokerit, which was also owned by Harkimos at the time . The Finnair Stadium finally opened in 2000. FC Jokerit was taken over in 2004 by local rivals HJK Helsinki, who converted the club into their second team, Klubi-04 .
