Karin Larsson , b. Bergöö (born October 3, 1859 in Örebro , † February 18, 1928 in Valnäs , Södermanland ) was a Swedish artist. She was married to the painter Carl Larsson .

Life

Karin Larsson was born in Örebro in 1859; her father was a businessman. She showed a talent for painting at an early age and was accepted into the Stockholm Art Academy in 1877 . There she studied until 1882. Then she traveled to the artists' colony Grez-sur-Loing near Paris, where she met Carl Larsson. They got married in Stockholm in 1883 and then returned to Grez-sur-Loing. Their first daughter, Suzanne, was born there in 1884; In 1885 they moved back to Stockholm.

Pontus Fürstenberg from Gothenburg wanted extensive paintings by Carl Larsson for his collection, which is why they left their two children with Karin's parents in Hallsberg and spent a year in Paris. When they returned to Sweden, they bought a small house, Lilla Hyttnäs , near Falun .

Although Karin Larsson gave birth to eight children and expanded the house for a large family, she still found time to act out her artistic streak. She designed and woven most of the textiles in the house, which is now a museum. An apron, which is called karinförklädet after it in Swedish , was popular in Sweden for a long time. Karin Larsson has also designed clothes for herself and her children as well as furniture. At the same time she was a reliable critic of the work of Carl Larsson.

She died in 1928 and was buried in the Sundborn Cemetery, northeast of Falun.
