Karin Schmalfeld (born February 19, 1976 ) is a German orienteer . She won the silver medal in singles at the 2005 World Games .

Schmalfeld starts for the club BSV Halle-Ammendorf . At the Junior World Championships in 1995 in Horsens , Denmark , Schmalfeld won the silver medal in the middle distance. The following year she was third in the long distance. It also had its first appearance at the world championships of the elite in 1995 at the world championships in and around Detmold . In the middle distance she reached place 29, with the German relay place 5. In the coming years Schmalfeld developed into the leading orienteer in Germany. She won at least one German championship title almost every season. Internationally, she repeatedly made it into the top ten, so she was in the top ten in all three individual disciplines at the 2006 European Championships, and in 2004 she was seventh in the overall World Cup. Probably her greatest success came in 2005 at the World Games in Germany when she won the silver medal in the individual competition behind the top Swiss runner Simone Niggli-Luder .
