Karin Schmidt-Ruhland

Karin Schmidt-Ruhland (* 1958 in Hagen aTW ) is a product designer and has been a professor at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art in Halle since 2007 . There she heads the game and learning design course and the design of playing and learning master’s course .

Career

From 1980 to 1983 she studied business administration at the FHW Berlin and sociology at the FU Berlin , from 1983 to 1990 she completed a degree in industrial design at the Berlin University of the Arts . During her studies, she founded a design agency . After graduating, she began teaching in 1991 at the HdK Berlin, from 1992 to 1997 as an artistic assistant in Nick Roericht's department , from 1998 to 2003 as a research assistant in the interdisciplinary research project SENTHA (senior-friendly technology in everyday domestic life) at the University of the Arts Berlin and from 2003 to 2004 as visiting professor at the UDK Berlin . From 2002 she worked at the "nick-roericht-stiftung" in the organization and archiving of Nick Roericht's teaching materials. In 2007 she was the project leader for “universal design” at the International Design Center Berlin and from 2006 to 2008 she conceived, organized and carried out the young talent competitions on the subject of “Universal Design” for the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth at the UdK Berlin. Since 2007 she has been a professor at the Art Academy in Halle and heads the game and learning design course. There she was Vice Rector for Teaching from 2010 to 2014 and headed the project: Castle designed! Quality pact teaching from 2011 to 2016. From 2017 she took over the provisional management of the product design, ceramic / glass design course. She is a jury member at various competitions, such as B. Focus Stuttgart , German Design Award Frankfurt , Child and Youth Cologne, Hessian State Prize Frankfurt , Kids Design Award Tokyo and Dineus competition .
