Sabine Gabrysch

Sabine Gabrysch (* 1976 ) is a doctor and epidemiologist . At the Institute for Public Health at the Charité in Berlin, she holds the newly established professorship for Climate Change and Health , where she focuses on “ Planetary Health ”, the health effects of human- induced environmental changes.

Life

Gabrysch grew up in Kornwestheim and, supplemented by stays in the United States and Argentina , studied medicine in Heidelberg and Tübingen from 1995 to 2002 . There she submitted her first dissertation in 2000 under the title Investigations on the transcriptional regulation of the new protein kinase h-sgk and its involvement in inflammatory-fibrosing diseases . After an interim position as an assistant doctor at a clinic in Sweden, she completed a degree at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine ; there she obtained a Master of Science degree in 2006 and her second doctorate in 2009 in the field of epidemiology.

In 2013 she headed a research team in the field of epidemiology funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research , before taking over the provisional management of the Epidemiology and Biostatistics department as well as the deputy director of the institute from 2014 onwards . Her main research interests include maternal and child health in developing countries , infectious diseases , malnutrition and climate change. She completed her habilitation in Heidelberg in 2014.

For their Since 2013 an interdisciplinary research project carried out Food and Agricultural Approaches to Reducing Malnutrition (FAARM), devoted to the fight against malnutrition in Bangladesh dealt, it was in 2018 by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Wuerttemberg with the "Award for courageous Science " excellent.

On June 1, 2019, she was appointed to the Chair for Climate Change and Health, which was established by the Berlin Charité and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research as the first of its kind in Germany. She also heads the Climate Resilience Research Department together with the agricultural economist Hermann Lotze-Campen .
