Hermann Lotze-Camping

Hermann Lotze-Campen (born February 23, 1966 in Norden ) is a German agricultural scientist and sustainability researcher . He is Professor of Sustainable Land Use and Climate Change at the Humboldt University in Berlin and heads Research Area II (“Climate Impact and Vulnerability”) at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research , funded by the Bayer Foundation . Clarivate Analytics counts him among the most cited researchers in the world.

Life

Lotze-Campen completed an apprenticeship as a farmer. He studied agricultural science and economics at the Universities of Kiel, Reading and Minnesota. In 1998 he received his doctorate in agricultural economics from the Humboldt University of Berlin.

He is married and has two children.

Lotze-Camping's research deals with the contradiction between increasing food consumption and sustainability .

In the public debate about ways out of the climate crisis , Lotze-Campen advocates a significant reduction in meat consumption and an increase in funding for research into plant-based alternatives to meat .
