Benjamin Bodirsky
Benjamin Leon Bodirsky (* in Breisach am Rhein ) is a German economist . He conducts research at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and teaches at the Humboldt University in Berlin .
Life
Bodirsky studied economics, politics, sociology and history at the Technical University of Berlin , the University of Potsdam , the Institut d'études politiques de Bordeaux , the University of Montesquieu Bordeaux IV and the University of Edinburgh . From 2013 to 2014 he worked for the Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT) in the research department for decision and policy analysis and from 2014 to 2016 as a member of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) in the research group for food systems and global change active. Bodirsky has been working at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research since 2007.
Act
Many of Bodirsky's contributions contributed important insights in areas such as land and food use and climate change . His research is recognized by the international community through publication in top international journals, including Nature and Nature Communications . His research results are also regularly reflected in the German-speaking and international media. For example, one article by Bodirsky alone, in which he and his research colleagues demonstrate the enormous amount of land used by animal husbandry, was reported in over 150 media.
Bodirsky takes part in the public debate about ways out of the climate crisis . He proposes taxes on methane emissions from ruminants and on polluting nitrogen surpluses from overfertilization . He also emphasizes the importance of organic agriculture and says: "From the point of view of science, it is crucial that the federal government gives climate-friendly farmers a competitive advantage."
