Karina (cherry)
Karina is a dark variety of sweet cherries belonging to the cartilage cherries . It is one of the main varieties in commercial cultivation with increasing importance and growing area.
origin
Karina was bred in 1957 by the fruit growing research institute Jork from the varieties Schneider's late cartilage cherry and beetroot and brought onto the market in 1993.
fruit
The fruit is medium to large and kidney-shaped. The skin is half ripe dark red and black when fully ripe. The firm pulp is very tasty and aromatic. It has a very high burst resistance and ripens in the 6th to 7th cherry week . The fruits can be used well even before they are fully ripe, so the variety has a very large harvest window and is therefore also ideal for kitchen gardens.
tree
The tree is robust and healthy. The growth is strong with steep, upright leading branches. The variety is self-sterile and needs a fertilization partner. Suitable Regina , Kordia , Octavia , Hedelfinger and Schneiders late cartilage cherry . It blooms very late with white to pink flowers. The start of earnings is late, but then regular and high.
