Octavia (cherry)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oktavia is a dark variety of sweet cherries belonging to the cartilaginous cherries . Because of its positive properties, it is one of the main varieties in the Altes Land with increasing acreage.

origin

'Oktavia' was bred by the fruit growing research institute Jork by crossing the varieties ' Schneider's late Knorpelkirsche ' and ' Rube ' and brought onto the market in 1981.

fruit

The stone fruit is medium to large in size and kidney-shaped. The skin is half-ripe dark red and in the full ripe shiny black. The light-colored flesh is firm with colorless juice. The taste is strong, aromatic and sweet. The stone is small and the handle long. The fruit is firm and tasty when unripe. It ripens irregularly in the 6th cherry week , which means that it has a relatively long harvest window.

fertilization

The variety 'Oktavia' is self-sterile and needs a fertilization partner. ' Erika ', ' Schneider's late cartilage cherry ', ' Alma ' and ' Bianca ' are suitable . She wears strong and regularly.
