Karl-August Schäffer

Karl-August Schäffer (* May 1925 ; † 1997 ) was a German mathematician and university professor .

Life

Karl-August Schäffer studied at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and received his doctorate in 1955 under Hans Georg Münzner with the dissertation "The Likelihood Adaptation Test". He worked at the Federal Statistical Office until he was appointed to a chair at the University of Cologne . On behalf of the Federal Statistical Office, he dealt with the mathematical analysis of demography and migration and published on the subject. In addition, he was one of the co-founders of the "Messages from labor market and occupational research" (MittAB). From 1980 to 1984 Schäffer was chairman of the German Statistical Society . His deputy was Heinz Grohmann .

Karl-August Schäffer died in 1997.
