Karl A. Koehler

Karl A. Köhler (born September 10, 1942 in Breslau ) is a former German diplomat .

Life

Karl Köhler initially studied law at the universities of Freiburg, Vienna and Göttingen. After joining the Foreign Service in 1972, he was employed at the Consulate General in Lyon and at the Embassy in India (cultural department). From 1977 to 1981 he was head of department at the former diplomatic school in Bonn, before he was then permanent representative of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in New Zealand until 1984. Thereafter, from 1984 to 1988, Karl Köhler was head of the cultural department at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mexico. From 1988 to 1990 he was then deputy head of a department at the Foreign Office in Bonn. Thereafter, from 1991 Karl Köhler was consul general in Palermo / Italy and from 1993 permanent representative of the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Nigeria (Lagos). From 1996 to 2001 he was head of the cultural department of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Japan. From 2001 to August 2004, Köhler was permanent representative of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Sweden. He then headed the German Embassy in Santo Domingo ( Dominican Republic ) until his retirement in 2007 .
