Karl Adolf Scherer

Karl Adolf Scherer (born August 29, 1929 in Bad Kreuznach , † November 4, 2008 in Erzhausen ) was a German sports journalist.

Scherer began his journalistic career in Bad Kreuznach. In 1958 he started at Sport-Informations-Dienst , where he held a managerial position until 1994. For decades he reported on the Olympic Games and a total of 39 IOC sessions . In 1988 he was awarded the Olympic silver medal .

From 1960 to 1972 Scherer was an author in the specialist journal Athletik . From 1972 to 1984 and then from 1988 to 1996 he acted as press officer for the German Wrestling Federation , from 1975 to 1984 and from 1988 to 1996 he wrote for the journal Der Ringer . In 1991 he was awarded the badge of honor with diamond from the FILA World Wrestling Association.

In addition to his journalistic activities, Scherer worked on numerous books and wrote some standard works. In 1970 he was an editor for heavy athletics and chess at the Lexicon Die Stars des Sport von AZ, published by Bodo Harenberg . He remained connected with Harenberg later, in the 1990s he wrote the sports history in numbers for Harenbergs Chronik-Verlag . In 1972 and 1976 Scherer was editor-in-chief of the official NOK Olympic books for Germany . The commemorative publication published under his direction in 1986 for the 100th anniversary of the German Swimming Association has remained one of the most important works on the history of swimming in Germany to this day.
