Karl Ampt

Karl Ampt (born April 11,  1949 in Marburg ) is a former German basketball player . He took part in the 1972 Summer Olympics and became German champion with MTV Giessen.

career

The 1.90-meter-tall winger made it into the basketball Bundesliga team of MTV 1846 Gießen in the 1967/68 season  and promptly became German champion in his first year. Ampt, characterized by an understanding of the game and elegant movements, made his debut in the German national team in February 1969 and was appointed to the Olympic squad in 1972. During the summer games in Munich, Ampt scored an average of 6.3 points per game in eight tournament games.

While he spent most of his basketball career in Giessen, Ampt, who studied dentistry, moved to Ingolstadt, where he trained as an oral surgeon. He played for 1. FC Bamberg from 1974 to 1976 and was the Bundesliga club's top scorer in both years before he returned to Giessen. In the course of his MTV time he also competed with the team in the European Cup. Shortly before the end of the 1977/78 game year, in which Giessen again won the German championship title, Ampt was suspended by coach Hannes Neumann after an argument during a practice session . This ended Ampt's Bundesliga career.

Professionally, he worked as a dentist with a practice in Giessen.
