Karl Andersen (cellist)

Karl August Andersen (born March 29, 1903 in Oslo (Kristiania); † August 15, 1970 ibid) was a Norwegian cellist , composer and music teacher .

Andersen had cello lessons from the age of 13 and studied music theory with Arvid Kleven and Iver Holter . From 1921 he continued his training as a cellist in Berlin with Hugo Becker , where he studied music theory with Hermann Grabner . He made his debut as a cellist in Oslo in 1920 and became second cellist in the Filharmonisk Sellskaps Orkester in 1924 . From 1932 to 1962 he was the orchestra's principal cellist. From 1932 he was also a member of the Philharmonic Society's string quartet. He composed, among other things, a string quartet (1934), a symphony for chamber orchestra (1936), an orchestral suite (1937), a trio for flute, clarinet and cello (1939), “Vaadagen” for male choir (1942), the orchestral overture “Festspill” (1951) and the ballet “Pilemønstret”.
