Iver Holter

Iver Holter (born December 13, 1850 in Østre Gausdal , † January 27, 1941 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian composer .

Holter studied medicine in Kristiania from 1869 to 1876 and also took lessons in counterpoint from Johan Svendsen . He studied at the Conservatory in Leipzig until 1879 , then in Berlin until 1881 . In 1882 he succeeded Edvard Grieg as conductor of the Harmonie symphony orchestra in Bergen , and from 1886 he was conductor of the Kristiania music association . He also taught music theory and worked as a music journalist .

Holter composed a symphony , an orchestral suite for Goethe's Götz von Berlichingen , idylls for orchestra, piano pieces and songs .
