Karl Anton von Lerber (born April 29, 1784 in Bern ; † March 30, 1837 ibid) was a Swiss merchant and politician .

Life

Lerber was born as the son of Franz Rudolf Lerber and Rosina Katharina Stürler in Bern. He was married to Susanne Louise Glayre, daughter of Pierre – Maurice Glayre. After stays in Paris and Rome, he worked in Lausanne from 1807. In 1816 he joined the Bernese Grand Council, and from 1824 to 1831 he was a member of the Small Council. In 1831 he was Vice President of the Constitutional Council. In 1831 he was elected again to the Grand Council, from 1831 to 1837 he was a member of the government, in 1832 he was Landammann and in 1833 mayor of the Republic of Bern. Lerber was president of the non-profit society, founder of the Berner Kantonalbank and the mortgage bank, in 1826 founder and first president of the Swiss Mobiliarversicherungsgesellschaft .
