Karl Baratta

Karl Baratta (born October 6, 1951 in Vienna ) is an Austrian dramaturge and director .

Live and act

Baratta grew up in Vienna, studied philosophy at the University of Vienna , directing at the Max Reinhardt Seminar and film and history of consciousness at the State University of New York (SUNYAB) and the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), wrote a work about Disneyland and graduated with MA. and Mag. Phil. from. 1981–1991 he was dramaturge at the Schauspiel Bonn and initiated a. a. the first world premieres by Elfriede Jelinek ( Burgtheater, Illness, Wolkenheim ) and Rainald Goetz ( War, Fortress, Cataract). 1991–1998 he was the head dramaturge at the Schauspiel Frankfurt. From 1989 he was Spielpan advisor to the management of the Volkstheater Wien and from 2000-2005 head dramaturge of the Volkstheater Wien. There he initiated a. a. World premieres by Antonio Fian, Franzobel, Gert Jonke, Kathrin Röggla, Marlene Streeruwitz. 2006–2009 he was dramaturge at Theater Basel and represented a. a. German-language premieres by Denis Kelly ( Liebe und Geld, taking care of baby ). He worked as a dramaturge a. a. with Jürgen Gosch, Hans Hollmann, Schorsch Cameroon, Tina Lanik, Christina Paulhofer, Elias Perrig, Anselm Weber and Horst Zankl, and as a guest dramaturge with Dimiter Gottscheff at the Volksbühne Berlin ( Das große Fressen ) and with Christoph Schlingensief at the Schauspielhaus Zürich ( Attabambipornoland ) . Since 2012 he has been teaching contemporary drama at the Max Reinhardt Seminar.
