Karl Blaimschein

Karl Blaimschein (born January 26, 1923 in Linz ; † May 9, 2001 ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and farmer. From 1955 to 1973 he was a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag .

education and profession

Blaimschein completed compulsory school and subsequently became a soldier, where he served in the 6th Army during the Second World War and was repeatedly wounded and awarded during the advance on Stalingrad . After his return, he worked as a farmer, taking over his parents' farm in Oberschöfring , St. Marien parish in 1954 . Blaimschein bred warmblood horses and Shetland ponies, set up an elderberry farm with around 800 trees and started a sauerkraut production facility. He was also active in the field of agricultural waste disposal.

Politics and functions

After his return from the war, he became involved in the agricultural sector, where his interest was in the youth and he tried to interest them in agriculture. After the visit of the British Agriculture Minister John Russelt to his farm, Blaimschein founded the first 4H club in Upper Austria and began to organize farming educational communities based on the American model. From the 4H-Klub emerged the youth work of the Chamber of Agriculture, which, among other things, mediated practical positions abroad for young farmers. In the political field, Blaimschein was a councilor for the Chamber of Agriculture from 1952 and ran for the state elections in 1955 as a peasant representative in the constituency of the Traunviertel . He was subsequently sworn in as a member of the state parliament on November 19, 1955 and subsequently campaigned for agricultural issues in the state parliament. With his participation, among other things, a solution was found for hail damage in agriculture, and he also campaigned for the expansion of telephone connections in rural areas. He also promoted the idea of holidays on the farm , took initiatives in the flower decoration competition and was involved in setting up the agricultural machinery fund. He was also chairman of the road committee for six years. Within the party, he was active as the ÖVP district chairman for Linz-Land from 1955 to 1967, and from 1955 he was the deputy chairman of the farmers' union for Upper Austria. On November 14, 1973, he left the state parliament.

Private

Blaimschein was married to Klara Pfaffenwimmer and had five children.
