Karl Blumauer , actually Johann Gottfried Bernhard ( 1785 in Brno - January 15, 1841 there ) was an Austrian theater actor , singer ( bass ) and writer of youth literature .

Life

Blumauer was a celebrated actor in Iffland's father roles at the time . He transferred his main activity to the Mannheim, Meininger and Weimar court theaters. At the time of the last-mentioned engagement, together with the well-known actor Karl Ludwig Oels , he drafted the plan for a general support fund for actors and wanted to give the stage members an independent position vis-à-vis the directors. The latter were extremely angry about this, so that they formed a kind of tacit cartel among themselves, never to engage Blumauer again. The artist was therefore forced to retire entirely from the stage in 1835. As a result of the boycott that was pronounced on him, he was no longer able to carry out his work as a director, in which he also achieved excellent results. He was now occupied with writing and has earned a respected name as a youth writer. He spent the last years of his life in Brno, where he died in 1841.

His daughter was the singer and actress Minona Frieb-Blumauer .
