Karl Borschke

Karl Borschke (born June 11, 1886 in Vienna ; † July 14, 1941 there ) was an Austrian painter and illustrator .

Life

After three years of training at the Strehblow painting school, Borschke studied from 1904 to 1911 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Christian Griepenkerl , Siegmund L'Allemand and Rudolf Bacher . He then went on a five-month study trip to Italy . From April 1, 1931, he was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus .

He created post-impressionist portraits, such as the portrait of the old man from 1911, as well as historical illustrations and mythological paintings. He also wrote books.

Awards

He was honored at the exhibitions of the Vienna Künstlerhaus:

  • 1919: for his works “Bubi” (pencil drawing), “Brothers and Sisters” (oil), “Herta” (drawing), “Hansi” (pencil drawing);
  • 1920: "In the height" (oil);
  • 1934: Portrait of the painter JW and "Christ on the Mount of Olives".

He also received prizes:

  • 1931: Prize of the City of Vienna.
  • 1934: Prize for the anniversary of the Vienna Künstlerhaus.
  • 1936: Prize from the Waldvogel Foundation.
