Karl Brauneder

Karl Brauneder (born March 13, 1960 in Vösendorf , Lower Austria ) is a former Austrian football player on the position of defender and midfielder . With Rapid Wien , the multiple national player was able to reach the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1985.

Career

As a player

Karl Brauneder played his first games in the Austrian Bundesliga for the Wiener Sport-Club , with which he surprisingly became runner-up in the first season in 1979. Although he could not repeat this success with the team in the following years, he was soon called up to the national team, for which he made his debut on May 19, 1982 in the 1-0 victory over Denmark . In the summer of 1983, the soccer player moved to Rapid Vienna , where he won his first title by winning the cup over FK Austria Vienna . Karl Brauneder experienced his career highlight in Hütteldorf when he made it to the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1984/85 , where he was defeated by Everton 1: 3. After two more victories in the ÖFB Cup and two championship titles, he moved to the second division club FC VOEST Linz (later FC Stahl Linz) in the winter of 1990/91 , with whom he promptly rose to the Bundesliga. After a year in Upper Austria, however, Karl Brauneder returned to Rapid Vienna in Hütteldorf, where he played his last Bundesliga games. At the end of his career he was active in the Regionalliga Ost .

As a trainer

During his coaching work at the BNZ Admira Wacker he discovered a. a. Erwin Hoffer and gave him the nickname "Jimmy". From summer 2008 he coached the traditional club 1. Simmeringer SC in the Oberliga A, which he immediately helped to win the championship title and thus led back to the Vienna City League , but surprisingly resigned his position as a coach on May 18, 2010 after a draw against IC favorites despite the second place in the table at the time. Most recently, Brauneder was involved as a sports director at FC Mariahilf .
