Karl Bruck (born September 2, 1907 in Bremen , † 1970 in Bremen) was a German businessman and head of the Reich Association of Jews in Germany in the Bremen district.

biography

Bruck was the son of a Jewish accountant in a construction business. His parents had converted to Christianity since 1903. So he too was baptized Christian. He attended the Alte Gymnasium in Bremen and trained as a businessman with a gentleman's outfitter. He then joined the construction company where his father was an authorized officer. His wife belonged to the Evangelical Church. During the time of National Socialism he was considered a Jew and had to take on the additional name Israel and wear the Star of David since 1941 .

When Carl Katz , the Bremen district leader of the Reich Association of Jews in Germany, was deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp , Bruck had to take over his role. The Reichsvereinigung was under the strict control of the Reich Main Security Office (RSHA) in the area of ​​responsibility of the Eichmann Department in the Secret State Police . As a result of considerable threats from the Gestapo, the Jews working in this institution got entangled, including Bruck. He survived this time, but was imprisoned for six months in 1947 because of his collaboration with the Gestapo.

After the Second World War he worked again as a businessman in his company, a gravel dredger.
