Karl Christian Reinhold von Lindener

Karl Christian Reinhold von Lindener (* 1742 in East Prussia ; † May 15, 1828 in Glatz ) was a royal Prussian major general of the engineering corps and most recently a brigadier of the fortresses Glogau , Breslau , Schweidnitz , Brieg based in Breslau.

Life

His brother was a Russian lieutenant general and died in Hirschberg (Silesia) in 1812 .

Military career

On November 4, 1767 he became a conductor in the engineer corps and on March 2, 1770 he was promoted to second lieutenant. He had the reputation of an excellent engineer and was commissioned by King Friedrich II to expand the Silesian fortresses. On November 29, 1772 he was raised to the nobility. On September 3, 1773 he became a captain with a patent from August 30, 1773 and an engineer officer of Breslau . On March 21, 1775 he was transferred to Schweidnitz, on June 25, 1787 promoted to major engineer and on May 10, 1789 he was Sous-Brigadier in Silesia. In the First Coalition War he fought at the cannonade of Valmy , the siege of Mainz (1793) . For Mainz he received the Pour le Mérite and a valuable snuffbox from the Elector of Trier . He became a lieutenant colonel on July 23, 1793 and a colonel on February 9, 1795. On May 20, 1803 he was appointed major general with a patent from May 23, 1803. On November 20, 1804, the king appointed him brigadier of the fortresses Glogau, Breslau, Schweidnitz, Brieg, based in Breslau. For this he received a salary of 1,500 thalers. During the Fourth Coalition War he was commandant of Breslau under Governor Alexander Heinrich von Thile . When the French approached the fortress, he surrendered the city without a fight. Lindener went into captivity, from which he was released on word of honor. In 1807 he asked for his replacement, but the king refused. On March 31, 1808, he was arrested on the orders of General Grawert , but it was not until 1811 that the court martial was ruled, which was confirmed by the king on March 19, 1811. Then the general was collected and sentenced to life imprisonment in Glatz . On May 32, 1814, he was pardoned and the remainder of his sentence remitted. On August 27, 1814, he received a monthly maintenance grant of 25 thalers from his lifetime. He died on May 15, 1828 in Glatz.

Lindener was interested in astronomy and published some observations in specialist journals.

family

He married on Christiane Elisabeth von Darjes (Darries) (* 1765, † June 11, 1830). The couple only had their daughter Christiane Sophie Pauline († August 10, 1800), who died at the age of 15.
