Karl Christoph Foerster

Karl Christoph Förster (born April 11, 1751 in Altenburg , † November 8, 1811 in Langenleuba-Niederhain ) was a Thuringian Lutheran pastor and poet of sacred songs and odes .

He wrote the “Christian Chants for Private Use”, which were published in print in Altenburg in 1782 and some of the songs were taken over in other church hymn books . Under the pseudonym "Hermann" he wrote the text for Johann Lukas Schubaur's Singspiel in two acts "Die Treuen Köhler". His children include the historian and writer Friedrich Christoph and the painter and art historian Ernst Joachim .
