Karl Edler von Pohnert (* May 12, 1832 in Brüx as Karl Aloys Pohnert; † November 4, 1911 ibid) was Mayor of the city of Brüx, member of the state parliament and imperial councilor.

Life

Pohnert was born in 1832 in Brüx as the first son of the citizen and farmer Franz Anton Pohnert (born June 7, 1803 in Mohr near Podersam; † August 25, 1865 in Brüx) and his wife Johanna Unger (born October 22, 1792 in Brüx; † 18 May 1863 ibid) born. His father was elected to the city council to succeed his father-in-law. Through him he is related to Ludwig Pohnert , professor in Vienna .

After graduating from high school, he studied pharmacy and settled in Brüx as a certified pharmacist. In 1862 he was elected to the municipal council for the first time, and finally to the city council in 1868. In 1877 he was elected mayor as a candidate for the Progress Party. He held this office until 1910. Pohnert received several awards from the government for his commitment. On the occasion of the completion of the work on the property tax regulation, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order . After the new building of the district court was completed, he was raised to the nobility with the predicate Edler von Pohnert. He received the honorary citizenship of the city of Brüx in 1902 for his quick and prudent actions during the so-called alluvial sand disaster. He was also given the title of Imperial Councilor. 1885 Pohnert was in the Imperial Council elections voted for the city constituency Saaz Postelberg-Brüx-Oberleutensdorf-Bilin-Görkau with 798 of the 1,004 votes cast as Imperial Council. He resigned from this office in 1886 for health reasons. Wilhelm Pichler from Jechnitz took his place. In 1911 he died in Brüx and was buried with great sympathy.

Pohnert had been with Anna Edle von Pohnert born on November 16, 1858. Zeppelin married. The marriage remained childless.
