Karl Friedrich Müller (Linguist)

Karl Friedrich Müller (born February 25, 1902 in Neustadt in the Black Forest ; † December 10, 1983 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German linguist, dialect researcher and teacher.

Life

Müller grew up as the son of a civil servant in Karlsruhe , Emmendingen and Freiburg im Breisgau . From 1920 he studied history as well as German and French philology at the University of Freiburg . In 1921 he joined the Freiburg Wingolf . In 1925 he completed his studies with a historical dissertation with the title History of the grain trade policy, the baker's and miller's trade in the city of Freiburg i. Br. In the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries .

After the state examination, Müller worked as a teacher at various Baden and Alsatian schools from 1927 to the 1960s, interrupted by a year when he took part in World War II and a short time after the war (1946 to 1948) when he was a volunteer Collaborator on the Baden dictionary . As a student he had already sent in material for the Baden dictionary and later collected it as a teacher at his school location.

In 1961, Karl Friedrich Müller succeeded Ernst Ochs as head of the Baden dictionary and thus senior academic counselor. He wrote supplies 28-32 from the second volume. (Keywords “Heidengeschäft” to “Holderweg”).

His language and dialect research focused on names, field names and dialect literature.

After retiring in 1968, he stayed in Freiburg. He died on December 10, 1983 in Freiburg, the day he moved to an old people's home. He was buried in the main cemetery in Freiburg .
