Karl Garaventa

Karl Garaventa (born November 22, 1888 in Goldau ; † 1965 ) was a Swiss farmer and cable car pioneer .

Life

Karl Garaventa was born as the son of the Italian emigrant Giuseppe Garaventa (1836–1917) and the Swiss Maria Dorothea Mettler (1855–1916) in Goldau . After the death of his father, he took over the family farm in Oberimmensee. On July 18, 1920, Garaventa acquired Swiss citizenship. After an accident with the horse and cart, Garaventa handed the farm over to his nephew and from then on devoted himself to the timber industry. On behalf of the SBB , he worked for the maintenance and reforestation of the protective forest on the Rigilehne. From 1928 Garaventa developed and built cable cars for timber transport in order to minimize the risks and to increase the profitability of logging. In this context, he temporarily works at R. Niederberger Söhne AG in Dallenwil . Garaventa's company built numerous small cable cars in the Immensee catchment area, but also in the eastern parts of the country. On January 1, 1957, Garaventa's sons Karl Garaventa jun. (1922–1989) and Willy Garaventa (* 1934) founded the company and founded the limited partnership Karl Garaventa's Sons for cable car and mechanical engineering in Immensee. The company has been part of the Doppelmayr / Garaventa Group since 2002 .
