Karl Garbe (politician)

Karl Garbe (born December 30, 1897 in Senftenberg , † May 30, 1929 in Bochum ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

Karl Garbe was born the son of a miner. After attending elementary school in Senftenberg, he completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith in Halle and then worked as a miner. From 1919 to 1923 he worked as an editor for the Halleschen Volksblatt . In the summer of 1923 he moved to Bochum, where he worked as an editor for the Bergarbeiter-Zeitung until 1928 and then for the Volksblatt until his death .

Garbe joined the USPD in 1917 and became a member of the SPD in 1922. He was chairman of the local SPD association Groß-Bochum and a member of the SPD district committee for Western Westphalia. From December 1927 to 1929 he was an unpaid member of the Bochum magistrate. In May 1928 he was elected as a member of the Prussian state parliament, to which he belonged until his death.

Karl Garbe died at the age of 31 as a result of an appendix operation.

His son is the journalist and writer Karl Garbe (* 1927).
