Karl Gaudelius

Karl Gaudelius (around 1820 in Frankfurt am Main - February 14, 1871 in Lübeck ) was a German theater actor , theater and opera director as well as theater director and theater director .

Life

Gaudelius was originally supposed to be a merchant, but entered Basel on December 29, 1839 as "Leutnant v. Berg ”in Pagenstreich by August von Kotzebue took the stage without any special preparation. After this performance he received engagements in which he only played first lovers.

He worked in Freiburg (1843), Würzburg (1844), Augsburg (1845–1846), Rostock (1847), Reval (1849), Regensburg (1850), Bonn (1851) and Ballenstedt (1852).

In 1853 he went to Cracow as artistic director. In 1856 he moved to Altona, 1857 to Trier, 1858 to Chemnitz, 1859 to Troppau, where he stayed until 1862. In 1863 he worked as a senior director at the Deutsche Oper in Rotterdam. In 1864 he directed the theater in Gothenburg in Sweden and in 1866 took over the Lübeck City Theater . He stayed there until his death.

He was married to the actress Anna Reuss , whom he had met in Reval.
