Karl Hauwede

Karl Hauwede (born August 27, 1860 in Allerstedt , † March 17, 1937 in Ilmenau) was a member of the state parliament of the SPD in the state parliament of Saxony-Weimar.

Karl Hauwede was a small trader in Ilmenau. From 1887 he was one of the leading functionaries in the SPD. From 1908 to 1918 he was a city councilor there, most recently deputy city councilor.

In 1906 he became a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Weimar for the first time. He held this office until 1918. For the SPD, he took part in the 1906 party congress in Manheim as a party congress delegate.

In 1908 Hauwege was a founding member of the Sonnenbad Ilmenau allotment garden. There he was chairman for 31 years and had to give up his office in 1933 under pressure from the National Socialists. Despite this pressure, the members of the association appointed him honorary chairman. He retained this office until his death.
