Karl Heinz Mommertz

Karl Heinz Mommertz (born September 28, 1929 in Aachen ; † May 14, 2016 there ) was a German engineer .

Life

Mommertz studied at the RWTH Aachen and was established in 1959 with his dissertation pulsating smoothing gas flows with jets from the mountain academy Clausthal doctorate . He then worked in technical and business management departments of various steel companies .

In 1966 Mommertz became head of the energy and business administration department of the VDEh in Düsseldorf . In 1968 he initiated the establishment of the Business Research Institute (BFI) of the VDEh, into which the energy and business administration department and the heating department were absorbed and which in 1971 became a non-profit limited company with Mommertz as the founding director. He expanded the institute into a center of industrial steel research. In 1994 he retired.

In addition to his work at the institute, Mommertz was a member of the Presidium and Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Working Group of Industrial Research Associations "Otto von Guericke" (AiF). There he promoted application-oriented community research and contributed to the shortening of the application and approval procedures as well as the modernization of the order and appraisal procedures, so that he has rendered outstanding services to the success control and control of industrial research. In addition, Mommertz was chairman of the board of the specialist information center for materials at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM). Since 1979 he has taught technical business administration at RWTH Aachen University.

Honors

  • 1999: Otto von Guericke Medal of the Working Group of Industrial Research Associations “Otto von Guericke” (AiF) in recognition of the voluntary commitment to non-profit research and development
