Live and act

Helbling came to St. Gallen on April 12, 1720. He made his profession on November 1, 1725. On June 11, 1729 he became a subdeacon and on September 23, 1730 a deacon . He became a priest on September 20, 1732. First he worked as a professor of philosophy and theology , before he became minister pastor in St. Gallen on April 30, 1740; an office that he had previously taken over provisionally. However, on November 8, 1741, he came to Rorschach as a pastor . However, due to poor health, which manifested itself in repeated phases of illness, he had to return to St. Gallen two years later. There he was a music teacher and later brother inspector before becoming a librarian. During this office, however, he soon passed away from an illness at the age of 38.

Due to his frequently recurring illness, Helbling was unable to pursue any activity for a long time. In his diary, however, Abbot Cölestin describes him as a capable man in all activities that he did and laments his death.
