Antonin Rüttimann

Antonin Rüttimann (born October 20, 1710 in Lucerne ; † April 12, 1754 ) was librarian at the St. Gallen monastery from 1746 to 1748 .

Life

He was born as the son of Karl Anton Rüttimann and Maria Anna Wagner. On September 23, 1723 Antonin Rüttimann came to St. Gallen, where he made his profession six years later on May 8, 1729 . On June 7, 1732 he became subdeacon , on June 19, 1734 deacon and priest finally His March 17, 1736. First Mass celebrated, he was on 12 October of the same year on April 15, 1736. On September 27 of the same year, the abbots elected him secretary of the Swiss Benedictine Congregation . On March 13, 1746, he became a moral professor and librarian at the St. Gallen monastery library . In 1749 he was appointed confessor for Notkersegg , and on February 19, 1752 he was made official. Two years later, at only 44 years old, he died of an illness.

Act

Due to his excellent "intellectual gifts and character", as Franz Weidmann , a successor to the office of librarian and the library chronicler, wrote, Antonin Rüttimann was considered a capable man who was assigned several times by Abbot Cölestin to various businesses and programs. So he sent him twice to Rome to negotiate the "Constance Affair". He accompanied Father Bernhard Frank von Frankenberg . Together they should have the ecclesiastical jurisdiction for the Abbey of St. Gallen transferred from the Constance diocese to St. Gallen, whereby they achieved that the matter came to the Rota , which Konstanz had tried to prevent. On May 3, 1348 he was sent a second time to Rome in the company of the future Abbot Iso Walter . They obtained the confirmation of a new concordat by Pope Benedict XIV. As a librarian, he had to serve Cardinal Quirini , who was in St. Gallen from 23 to 27 September 1747. On September 18, 1751, he accompanied the abbot to the abbot's meeting.
