Karl Herbsthoffer

Peter Rudolf Karl Herbsthoffer (born April 17, 1821 in Bratislava , † June 1, 1876 in Waidhofen an der Thaya ) was an Austrian portrait , genre and history painter .

Life

Herbsthoffer studied from 1834 to 1839 with Karl Gsellhofer at the Academy of United Fine Arts in Vienna . After 1839 he received private lessons from the portrait painter Friedrich von Amerling in Vienna. Between 1846 and 1870 he was in Paris in Eugène Isabey's studio . From 1846 to 1876 he participated regularly in the Paris Salon . In 1853 he was in Manchester and sent exhibitions at the London Royal Academy of Arts. He presumably took French citizenship in 1855.
