Karl Köhler (born January 28, 1928 ) is a former German football player who was active for Lokomotive Stendal from 1950 to 1959 in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

For the 1950/51 season, the 22-year-old Karl Köhler was included in the squad of the league team of the company sports community (BSG) Lokomotive Stendal. On the 2nd league game day he was called up for the first time and played as a right defender. He kept this position until the end of the season and was absent during the entire season only in two point games and was able to excel as a goalscorer five times. In the following two seasons Köhler moved to the left defensive side and was absent again only in two league games. He scored one goal every season. In 1953/54 he fell ill for a long time. In addition to a short-term assignment in the first half of the season, he only played the last seven point games of the season, which ended for Stendal with relegation from the league. In the GDR league season 1954/55, in which the BSG managed to get promoted again immediately, Köhler fought back his regular place and was used in 22 of the 26 league games. In the newly introduced three-way defense, he was regularly called up as a central defender. From 1956 GDR football was played every calendar year. Köhler was only able to play four point games due to injuries in the first half of the season, only in the second half of the season he was back in all 13 league games as a central defender in the team. After a long time he managed to score another goal. With the usual reliability he was in his position in 1957 in 24 of 26 league games on the field, but had to witness the relegation of his team again. In the GDR league, like three years ago, the march back to the first class was achieved with the active help of Köhler, who was missing only three times in the 26 games. Subsequently, Köhler ended his career in high-performance football at the age of 31.
