Karl Kühling

Karl Kühling (born June 25, 1899 in Osnabrück ; † April 21, 1985 ) was a German newspaper reporter , author and local politician . For his commitment to coming to terms with the history of the city of Osnabrück, he was given honorary citizenship in 1984 .

Life

His father Wilhelm Kühling was a businessman and worked at the commercial court in the 1920s. In addition, Wilhelm Kühling was head of the Heger Laischaft from 1920 to 1952.

Karl Kühling attended the Ratsgymnasium and was a soldier on the Western Front in the last two years of the First World War . After the war he was initially a businessman and then switched to sports reporting for the Osnabrücker Tageblatt in 1925 . Later he worked on theater reviews, which resulted in the assumption of the overall editing of the feature section of the newspaper. As early as August 28, 1939, he was a soldier in Infantry Regiment 37 of the 6th Infantry Division on the Western Front. Here he was active in a radio brigade. After the Second World War, he became a councilor for the CDU from 1945. In 1949 he returned to his old work at the Osnabrücker Tageblatt . In the city council from 1970 to 1972 he was parliamentary group leader of the CDU.

He was also the word keeper and accountant for the Heger Laischaft . Here he was in charge of the negotiations for the exchange of areas of the laischaft that were needed for the construction of the Rubbenbruchsee . So out of gratitude the circular route (Karl-Kühling-Weg) around the Rubbenbruchsee was named after him. In 1960 he moved to the editorial office of the Neue Tagespost . In his work as an author, he mainly worked on the time of National Socialism and the history of the Jews in the city. In 1965 he was named Karl II. Osnabrück kale king.

On January 3, 1966, he was awarded the Justus Möser Medal . He received the honorary citizenship of the city on June 5, 1984 because of his merits in coming to terms with the past and present of the city of Osnabrück in order to keep them alive in the citizens' historical awareness . His estate was given to the Lower Saxony State Archives .
