Karl Kani
Karl Kani (actually Carl Williams ) (* 1970 in San José , Costa Rica ) is a fashion designer and the founder and president of the hip-hop fashion label of the same name .
Life
Kani started designing fashion at the age of 16 after learning the trade in his father's tailoring shop . In 1989 he founded the fashion company Karl Kani in Los Angeles . It achieved annual sales of more than $ 60,000,000 . His casual designs, which were heavily influenced by the hip-hop scene, became popular mainly because of the appeal that the clothing found among African-American stars of the music, sports and film scene, such as Will Smith and 2Pac . Thanks to the success of his company, Kani has been one of the 100 wealthiest African Americans since 1996 according to People Magazine .
