The lakes from above

The Ohlenstedt spring lakes are located in the localities of Ohlenstedt and partly in Hülseberg , which belong to the town of Osterholz-Scharmbeck in the Osterholz district in Lower Saxony .

description

The Ohlenstedter source lakes consist of three lakes :

  • Goldbergsee: 3.9 ha
  • Maritime lake: 4.1 ha
  • Source lake: 5.7 ha

They have a depth of 6 to 12 m and also some fish stock. The visibility in the water is about 1.5 to 2.5 meters. The bathing water quality of each individual lake is monitored.

The lakes were created through sand mining and thus belong to the quarry ponds . They belong to the same hydrological system as the Hamme , as they draw their water on site from the same groundwater as the upper reaches of the Hamme, the Giehler Bach . This rises on the Lange Heide and, coming from the south , flows past the lakes in the east , making it the drainage system for the region. Between these three lakes and the stream there are other small water basins in the immediate vicinity and there may be a connection here via the groundwater based on the principle of communicating pipes . Between these and the three lakes there are two more inlets to the Giehler Bach ; but since there is no superficial connection to the river system, the lakes are not real source lakes in the sense of the definition.

tourism

In the 1950s, Erwin Kübel built the sand and gravel in the area and gave the lakes and their surroundings their present-day shape. Initially, the water was basically of drinking water quality , as the groundwater was filtered through the layers of gravel and was crystal clear. Today the water is rather dark green.

The lakes were used as bathing lakes early on , as they have a total of 5 km long sandy beach , on which there is now a non-swimmer area and a nudist beach. On warm summer days, up to 10,000 people camp on its banks. Motor boating is prohibited; Surfing is not permitted when the pool is in operation; there is a pedal boat rental for this. Access to the lake is usually chargeable for visitors.

Camping has been taking place on site since 1968, which has become a campsite to this day . Numerous holiday homes line the edge, which are around 40 m² in size. Children's playground , kiosk and restaurant complete the infrastructure for so many visitors.

DLRG guard station

The German Life Saving Society ( DLRG ) -Ortsgruppe Osterholz-Scharmbeck guards the lakes from May 15th to September 15th; outside the holiday season on the weekend, during the holiday also during the week. The guard station is housed in a wooden house centrally on the site. It is manned by a guard and eight security guards during the official guard duty from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
